My webmaster had big problems trying to resize this image to fit within the margins. I am afraid that I did not help by looking at the computer screen and saying "Stupid boy!"
My old Regiment. I recall in my Biography the following little tale.  "My initial six weeks training at Catterick had been pretty horrendous. I had such thin ankles, my trousers didn't fit too well in my gaiters. As I did an about-turn on the parade ground, my trousers came out and flapped. So all the lads christened me 'Dougie Gaiter'!"
The co-author of my Biography, Shirley describes herself as "a 'chameleon' writer, because although currently a biographer, she writes in a variety of genres, encompassing an eclectic range of fiction, magazine articles, song-writing, poetry and screenplays.

In my Biography, Vince recalls the time when I worked with him in Torquay. "After one evening's show, we all went to an hotel, off the front somewhere, because we thought we could get a late night drink; we were refused entry, by a burly doorman. Alton said to him. 'Now look, we are not going to give you any trouble. Just let us in. If you don't I'll do my act. I'm warning you!'  The doorman gave way!"

I appeared in cabaret with Frank, was featured on BBC Ed Doolan’s radio programme with him, and still fondly remember when Frank and his mum joined us for tea at our Birmingham home in 1983. His Website is just as I remember him - polished and professional.

Jasper wrote the Foreword to my Biography "The Original Alton Douglas"  and makes the following comment about my books.

"They are very good indeed, in fact I have collected them all; I even bought one. Yes they are that good."

Jasper Carrott was born in Birmingham in 1945, and educated at Acocks Green Infants/Junior School and Moseley Grammar School.

To quote his website - his "notable achievements include two gold albums, four silver discs, 1.5 million books and two T-shirts!"

My poetry's never been lewd.
My limericks aren't even rude.
Applause that I hear ?
Shouts of "More" ? Or a cheer ?
If I'm honest I think I've been booed !

So - if you like humour that's clean and funny, then this should be the answer.

The Group has been in existence for over twelve years and has been going from strength to strength.  We were formerly known as The Woodgate & The Valley History Group and, having incorporated Bartley Green 'village' into our areas of research, renamed as Bartley Green District History Group in 2009.  We research the old villages/hamlets that surround The Woodgate Valley Country Park in Birmingham.  These villages are Woodgate, Moor Street, Kitwell, California and Bartley Green.  In between there is Woodgate Valley South.
