THE LATEST NOSTALGIC BOOK.
The Tribute act seems to be all the rage, in Showbiz, at present and I suppose this could be called a Tribute book. For example, due to the success of the BBC series "Dad's Army" (one of my favourites) to many young people the Home Guard are only seen as figures of fun and yet, at the time, they were a most reassuring presence. We've tried to redress the balance. The role of women, in wartime, has often been downplayed and so we've shown lots of examples of their involvement. We've also included a great many of the firms that contributed so much both to the war effort and the post-war regeneration of our city.
Of course, the Forties were much more than just a time of conflict and hopefully we've illustrated too that Brummies made the best of an almost impossible period, dusting themselves down and getting on with the difficult business of rebuilding their lives and their city.
I suppose, on reflection, you could say that all our books pay homage to the past but this time, with over 400 quite often rare items, we hope you'll feel that we've performed a special Tribute act.
The most fun you can have for £2.95!
